How to Record a Zoom Podcast on the RØDECaster Pro ll

A step by step guide

Step 1

Connect the RØDECaster Pro II to your laptop

  • Use the USB-C cable to connect the RØDECaster Pro II to your laptop, from one of the two USB-C slots on the back of the device.
  • Make sure the RØDECaster is plugged in and turned on. Click here for our setup guide if you have not already set up the interface.

Step 2 (For Mac)

Configure audio settings in your laptop

  • Open 'System Preferences' > 'Sound'.
  • Set the RØDECaster Pro ll as both the input and output device. If the connecting cable is in USB-C port 1, choose "RØDECaster Pro ll Main" for both the input and output.
  • If the connecting cable is in USB-C port 2, choose "RØDECaster Pro ll Secondary" for both the input and output.
  • By setting the RØDECaster Pro II as both the input and output device, this allows the audio from the Zoom call to be routed through the device. It also allows you to use microphones connected to the RØDECaster Pro II as your input.

Step 2 (For Windows)

Configure audio settings in your laptop

  • Open 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Sound' and select the RØDECaster Pro ll as both the input and output device.
  • If the connecting cable is in USB-C port 1, choose "RØDECaster Pro ll Main" for both the input and output.
  • If the connecting cable is in USB-C port 2, choose "RØDECaster Pro ll Secondary" for both the input and output.
  • By setting the RØDECaster Pro ll as both the input and output device, this allows the audio from the Zoom call to be routed through the device. It also allows you to use microphones connected to the RØDECaster Pro ll as your input.

Step 3

Configure audio settings in Zoom

  • Open the Zoom application on your laptop and click on your profile icon on the top right > 'Settings' > 'Audio'.
  • Set the RØDECaster Pro ll as both the microphone (input) and speaker (output). This configuration ensures that your voice is picked up by the RØDECaster Pro's microphones and that you can hear the Zoom call through the RØDECaster.
  • You can also hit "same as system" to configure the same input and output settings in Zoom.

Step 4

Assign the Zoom input to a fader

  • Faders are the sliders on the front of the RØDECaster Pro ll. Choose a fader to assign for this Zoom call, ensuring to pick a fader that isn't already being used for the host's or the guest's audio. Just to play it safe, we suggest selecting the right-most fader
  • To assign a fader, tap on the square button above the fader you've chosen. Next, tap the settings icon on the screen to access the settings for that fader.
  • From here you can assign the input to that fader by tapping on the input you are using. For example, if your laptop is connected to the interface via the USB-C 1 slot, tap on USB 1. Lastly, hit the green checkmark on the screen to finalize the settings.
  • If the fader you have chosen hasn't already been assigned, after you hit the green checkmark, you will be asked to confirm your selection. Go ahead and hit reassign.

Note

As the in-person host, you must use a microphone to record your audio, as the RØDECaster Pro ll does not directly record your voice on Zoom. It will, however, record your guest's audio.

Ensure you're speaking clearly into one of the microphones, and that its matching fader is set to the thick white line. There is more on this in our guide for setting up the RØDECaster Pro ll.

Step 5

Record the Podcast

  • Double check to make sure your microSD card is inserted into the back of the RØDECaster Pro ll.
  • Hit the record button when you're ready to get started. With everything connected and configured, you can now record audio directly through the interface.
  • Use the headphones connected to the RØDECaster to monitor the audio quality and make adjustments with the faders as necessary.

Step 6

When you're done...

  • To stop the recording, press and hold the record button until it turns from red to green.
  • Remove your microSD card and power off the device.
  • Please wipe down the equipment with a cleaning wipe.
  • Thank you for recording with LPM!
