How to Submit Your Podcast to Google Podcasts and Google Play Music

If your podcast is already discoverable on Google, it’s likely that Google Podcast already has your podcast listed. If your show is not listed, you should check to see if you’re following the Google guidelines.

You want something? You have a question? Google it! That’s how modern life goes. You want people to find your podcast in Google and take advantage of their two podcast platforms, Google Podcasts and Google Play Music.

It doesn’t take much time, and the chances are, Google Podcasts might have already found your show and added it to their registry. (Oh wow!) Breathe deep, and read on.

Google Podcasts

Google Podcast is relatively new among other podcast platforms, but an important one. When your show is on Google Podcasts, it is exposed to different Google surfaces and products such as the Google Podcasts App, Google Search on all browsers, Google Search Apps, Google Home, Google Assistant etc.

If your podcast is already discoverable on Google, it’s likely that Google Podcast already has your podcast listed. If your show is not listed, you should check to see if you’re following the Google guidelines. According to the guidelines, you should…

  • Expose a valid RSS feed describing the podcast that conforms to the RSS 2.0 specifications and Google feed requirements.
  • Make sure the feed contains at least one episode that conforms to the episode requirements.
  • Make sure the podcast has a dedicated homepage that follows our requirements. The homepage must have a <link> pointing to your RSS feed.
  • Make sure Googlebot can access the homepage, the RSS feed, and any audio files. The homepage, the RSS feed, and any audio files must not require a login, and must not be disallowed from crawling by the robots.txt or noindex robots meta tag.
  • Make sure the podcast homepage follows the Webmaster Guidelines.

Google Play Music

Google Play Music has not only music but also a large library of podcasts and attracts many podcast listeners. Having your show on Google Search or Google Podcasts does NOT mean it is in Google Play Music. Like other podcast platforms, you have to go and submit your show manually.

(Note: You need to be located in the U.S. or Canada to submit your show to Google Play Music, and Podcasts on Google Play Music are only available to the listeners in the U.S. and Canada.)

Follow the steps below to submit your show.

  1. Create a Google account if you haven’t already. It’s free.
  2. Go to the Google Play Music Podcast Portal.
  3. Login using your Google account.
  4. Review and accept the terms of service.
  5. Select either “New Podcast” from the top left corner or “Add a Podcast” on the top right corner. (They will lead you to the same page.)
  6. Enter the URL for your RSS feed.
  7. Verify ownership of the show as instructed.
  8. Review the information and select “Publish Podcast.”
  9. Wait for Google to approve.

If you have more questions, you can go to Google’s Podcast Portal Help page or contact us via the form below or via email.

With podcasts getting bigger and bigger, and as Google takes on Apple and Spotify for how to categorize and sort podcasts, it has become more important than ever to have your show found on Google Podcasts.

Also, if you need help getting your podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, we have step by steps guides on that too.
